Frequently Asked Questions

Questions on Policies and Logistics

  • I require a 48-hour notice for rescheduling or cancelling appointments. I give each of my clients one “freebie”. Depending on your situation (family emergency, etc) I may give additional exceptions.

  • Yes! I have openings for sliding scale clients. Feel free to discuss it in our consultation and we can set something up.

  • Many of my clients are children and adolescents that are only available after school hours, so on most days of the week. I also have availability Sunday afternoons.

  • Currently, I am out of network with insurance plans. However, I do provide a superbill. You may be able to submit it to your insurance company for some reimbursement.

  • Currently, I am only taking new clients virtually through tele-health. I may open an office in the near future in the Sacramento area.

Questions About Treatment

  • The exact length of therapy is dependent on several factors, such as client’s level of commitment for therapy homework, level of acuity in their presenting problem, and other circumstances.

I have had several clients improve rapidly, especially when going through an intensive with me. However, everyone has their own pace for improvement.

The clients that have the greatest and most rapid improvement typically have a few things in common. They are committed to therapy homework and practicing new skills. They also regularly give feedback about what is and isn’t working in therapy

  • Please refer to my Approach page.

  • I do not practice couples therapy, but will happily give you some referrals if that is what you are interested in.

I sometimes provide family therapy to some of my adolescent clients, but primarily as a later-stage intervention.

  • Please look at my Services pages.

  • That would depend on the kind of treatment that we have agreed upon. If you are looking to learn and practice tools to recover from your challenges, then I will make homework a necessary component of treatment. We will collaborate on the type and quantity of homework.

You may be asking “Well, why is homework so important?” Like learning any other skill, practice is critical. Imagine if you were learning, say, a new language. You agree to meet with a tutor once a week. Would you become fluent in that language from only meeting that tutor? Most likely not. You would have to practice in between those meetings, such as reading, writing, and speaking that language in your own time. Learning therapeutic tools is a similar process.

  • Hypnotherapy is a far cry from the applications of hypnosis that you see in the media. I strive to strip away any form of mystery and mysticism from the process.

Clinician hypnosis with me is more closely related to guided imagery than to stage hypnosis. It typically involves elements of relaxation, imagery work, and metaphors.

Like any technique, hypnosis is not for everyone.

  • It is completely normal for parents to be curious and wanting to be involved in their child’s treatment. As your child’s therapist, I will maintain their confidentiality.

Depending on the issues at hand, I may make parent sessions a part of treatment. During these sessions I will provide psycho-education and we will collaborate on different strategies to support your child.

Under most circumstances I will provide a monthly update for parents on treatment progress. This is done after discussing with your child what to share or not to share. Typically, most of my minor clients agree to share the broader topics and progress made towards our therapeutic goals while maintaining privacy on some of the specifics.

  • My age range for pediatric clients is 9-17. I can work with clients younger, although typically at that age range I would refer them to a specialist that is experienced with working with that age range.
